Visitors to aigües, a village at 340 metres above sea level in the heart of the alicante mountains and a mere stone’s throw from the beaches at El Campello, will now be able to enjoy a stay at La venteta, a country house that has been faithfully converted into peaceful accommodation where guests can relax and make the most of the mountains, the coast and the Mediterranean.
La venteta boasts five double rooms, each with its own character, plus several lounges, a library, a games room, a swimming pool, patios and gardens. Rates for two people sharing a room range from 65 euros during low season to 85 euros in peak season, and include breakfast. Special rates are also available for long stays.
Thanks to the perfect blend of antique and period furnishings and fittings, each room in the hotel has its own personality, expressed through tasteful decoration and such pieces as rustic french furniture, crystal chandeliers and other items salvaged from the original property.
Outdoors, guests can enjoy landscaped patios, the murmuring of fountains and the magnificent swimming pool, or take a stroll through the gardens, where palm trees, orange trees and olive trees blend their ochre and green palettes with the colourful bougainvilleas.
La Venteta is the ideal setting for a short break or for celebrating family or corporate events.

The El Reconco naturalist association and the Biar Hiking Centre have creafed two new botanical frails through the Sierra del Reconco and the Sierra del Fraile mountain ranges, offering naturalists a great variety of endemic Mediterranean flora.
The botanical trail through the unusual Sierra del Fraile, which has been created by the El Reconco naturalist association, offers hikers three different routes of varying lengths: a 2km trail, a 5 km trail and, the most difficult, a 7 km trail. The shortest route is signposted in green and has been created for mainlyeducational purposes. The 5 km trail is signposted in blue and aimed at adult hikers with some previous hiking experience, while the 7 km frail is signposted in red and suitable only for the more expert hikers.
The botanical walk through El Reconco, created by the Biar Hiking Centre, is a shorter trail, barely 2 km long, but reaches an altitude of 1,180 metres above sea level.
One of the most interesting features of these 2 routes is the great variety of endemic species that visitors will discover along the way many of which have been catalogued as exclusive to the Mediterranean area.

Peñíscola casfle, better known as the castle of Papa Luna, celebrated the 700-th anniversary of its founding in November and the celebrations will continue into 2008. Peñíscola castle was the last to be built by the Order of the Temple before this organisation abruptly disappeared, and is one of the most well preserved Templar castle in the whole of Spain.
Its history begins in the 12-th century when the Moors built a fortress on the site on which the castle now stands, making good use of a strategic site. King Jaime I the Conqueror captured the fortress, and subsequently presented it to Arnaldo de Cardona. Years later, ownership of the castle reverted to theSpanish Crown, upon which King Jaime II granted it to the Templars in exchange for the castle at Tortosa. The construction of Peñíscola castle as we know it began in 1294, and it took 12 years in the building.
The Order of the Temple transformed the Moorish citadel, converting it into a castle and convent. Following the dissolution of the Order of the Temple in 1312, the castle fell into the hands of Jaime II, King of Aragon, who gave it over to the Order of Montesa in 1317. Knights of the Order of Montesa occupied the castle for several years bafore ceding it to Benedict XIII, known as Pope or Papa Luna, who then took up residence there.
During the reign of Ferdinand, the Catholic King, the castle became property of the Crown once again, and it was given an architectural overhaul under King Felipe II. Alongside the Vatican and the Palace of the Popes in Avignon, Peñíscola castle boasts the distinction of being the Papal Seat an honour held by only three places in the whole of history.
